I really wanted to like Mel's Auto Glass because I love supporting local businesses and their reviews looked great, but my experience was really disappointing. First, I called for a quote on a Thursday, and when I called back to schedule, they gave me a much higher number. Thankfully, they honored the original price. I was able to schedule for Saturday morning, which was perfect since we were leaving on a family vacation that following Wednesday. On Friday, they called asking if we could move the appointment from 8 AM to 10 AM. No problem. However, when we showed up at 10 AM and dropped the vehicle off, we received a call within the hour saying the windshield glass had never actually been delivered. They apologized, said it was their mistake, and promised to "double order" the glass and come to our house for a mobile install on Tuesday morning. They also promised a discount for the inconvenience. Tuesday, the mobile technician arrived around noon and replaced the windshield. However, when it came time to pay, they tried to charge me the original full price. I had to remind them about the discount that was promised. After some back and forth with the office, they did honor the discount, but again, it showed a lack of communication. Later that day, when we finally drove the vehicle, we immediately noticed a whistling noise coming from the top right corner of the new windshield. We brought the vehicle back in the next day. They handed us some patch material and told us to plug the gap ourselves, because the weatherstripping they installed was not cut to the proper size. Not ideal. Finally, about a week later, we discovered a bigger problem: our hood latch was completely broken. We found the broken latch piece in our driveway exactly where the technician had worked. We had never opened the hood after the install, and the broken part had clearly been left behind without saying anything. I even remembered seeing the technician working under the hood during the appointment. Overall, the experience was frustrating and disappointing at every step: miscommunication, quality issues, and ultimately, damage to our vehicle without any acknowledgment. I hate to leave a negative review, but I would not recommend Mel’s based on our experience.

While I understand it may be somewhat ridiculous to expect same day service from a company that supplies for a major dealership. It is, however, obnoxious and infuriating to have experienced what I went through. I came to my dealership yesterday asking after making an appointment that I prefer to have my windshield repaired along with other things going on with my vehicle. In the process of this, I was informed that there may be a delay but I should be able to get my vehicle seen by 1 o'clock, I had shown up at 9:30 that morning. When 140 rolled around and I had not heard any information from my service technician. Aside from the repairs being done at my dealership having already been finished. I went out to ask for an update only to find out that they had not been in contact with my service technician at all. Which which is absolutely unacceptable. It was 430 before they even got in contact with my service. Second shot to tell them they could not do it that day. And then an appointment was made for 930. The following morning under the assumption that I would show up and I would be able to have my car seen too and finished by 11. Not only did they not meet the appointment time they agreed to (0930), they also caused me to miss 2 full days worth of work, today and yesterday, because they could not meet with me in a timely manner. There was no communication with me or my service technician about delays, no information given on an eta unless we called multiple times, and no sense of remorse from the staff about time missed. If you are going to supply for a major dealership and have advanced notice that you need to be there on time and ready, not have your customer or their customer waiting for three and a half hours with no word. It is not noon and the tech hasn't even shown up for my appointment yet,. I have missed my entire day of work, just as I did yesterday and there has been no offer of compensation or even an 'I'm sorry'.ServicesAuto windshield replacement

THIS IS MY TESTIMONY ON HOW NOT TO GET SCAMMED FROM MELS AUTO GLASS. I called to have my center, manual sliding window replaced on my 2013 Toyota Tundra. After talking with a rep the price was told “the charge would be 500 dollars, and they would need to replace both back passenger and driver side windows sections to be able to replace the center back cab window.” ( WHICH IS A COMPLETE LIE MADE ON THE BEHALF OF THEIR REP WHO GOT THE QUOTE FROM THE SHOP GUY) I looked into myself, and found a replacement for 71 dollars from “brad’s auto glass website” with a how to do it yourself video. shipped same day, and arrived in two days. The video they provided is exactly as how I replaced it myself. Took 20 mins. Works great saved 400 dollars. Don’t get over priced by people who claim to be “professional who clearly don’t know how price, or do their job.” It’s Taken me longer to write this, then actually doing the work. If you’re going to run business maybe, you should try having some integrity. Clown UPDATE: receptionist called to ask is if I wanted to reschedule a repair for the same quoted price of $500, and that it wasn't possible to replace just the center piece without removing the two side windows. even tho it’s clear from the pictures that it is possible, and can be done at a much lower cost then what originally discussed. My advice don’t rush to have a cracked window replaced and agree to anything someone tells you without finding a solution for yourself first. It’s obvious to me MEL’S is ran by the incompetent. With less then a high school diploma under their belt, and will say, and do anything to get as much money as they can from their costumers.

On May 1st I brought my 1973 MGB GT in for installation of a new windshield gasket and the existing windshield and aluminum trim which I had removed for some minor body repair. I ended up here after a referral from a shop that stated Mels does a lot of RV and truck window installations. After a very informative conversation I was told yes they can do it but I had to bring the car in because the work would be performed by the owner, who no longer goes out on jobs, and a senior technician. This was reassuring as there are not many who would tackle this project. You could imagine my surprise when I rolled the car off the trailer to be met by fairly negative comments and how they rarely if ever do this type of work. They did get the gasket and windshield installed but with damage to the gasket which I had shipped in from the UK. They gave up on installing the aluminum trim but did substitute a plastic flexible chrome trim which really did not do the job but I give them credit for the attempt. I seriously doubt "the owner" was involved with the work and question the amount of experience the "senior tech" had with this particular procedure. I believe they do good work on contemporary windshield installs but I would not recommend them for any classic domestic or foreign installations. I will have to see how long I can live with the work before I just try to find someone else capable of the procedure. The vehicle is deserving of a higher quality installation.

This location definitely is not truthful to their customers. We went to Mel's because they were the only place that had a Saturday appointment. Customer service told us glass was ordered and we were set for our 8AM appointment on a Saturday. We came in for appointment and after 2 hrs of waiting were told by the shop the wrong glass came in and had to reschedule for Monday. We came back on Monday and had to drop off vehicle for appointment, I was contacted at 2pm and told yet again the glass was wrong. After calling Customer service I found out that the glass had never made it there and the shop was lying about the fit. Finally after 3 attempts to get a window installed, we were able to take our vehicle home with a new window. They did nothing extra. I have had other glass work done by the big name in town and have always wiped everything down and vacuumed up any broken glass. If you have a extra couple days to waste Mel's is your place. If you want professional service maybe look to the bigger name in town.

UPDATE: Your response here shows your lack of knowledge. I explained multiple times THERE IS NO CUTTING HOLES IN METAL! My van has a removable side panel with windows cutout beneath that is held in place by glass glue. A glass shop removed this panel in the past for a recall. I simply requested the same panel be removed and glass glued on. All your CSR kept saying was “We no longer have the capability to remove the side panels.” The glass is easily ordered online, the panel removed, and the glass glued into place. Again, you guys clearly don’t know what you’re doing. Also, this person never did call me. Very poor experience. The customer service rep was not knowledgeable about my issue. She put me on hold to talk to a supervisor but when I asked to speak to that supervisor she had to take my name and number and he would call me back. Of course he never did. I called someone else and got my answers with no problems and no runaround.

THANK YOU ALL! Amazing service from start to finish. Will recommend y’all any chance I get. Robin took my call, got me an estimate for repair, & explained my service options. At home service is so convenient! She got me scheduled for the next week, my choice of day, but I got the impression I could have done it even sooner. Chris came out, & did the repair. He was personable, explained the process, & made me feel confident he was the man for the job (he was!). It took him about an hour, then he was on his way, allowing space for the tech to calibrate the windshield. Rob was the one to perform the calibration. I really appreciate that he went above, & beyond to take my car to the shop to calibrate there versus on site, which had sub-par conditions (not Mel’s fault at all, of course). Thanks for making this as painless as possible!

Had the unfortunate luck of two vehicles being broken into in the same night. After doing a good amount of Google researching for what to expect price wise, I called here on a recommendation from the company I work for. The customer service from the first call to paying the final tab was great. It could not have been more easy to schedule and them being open on Saturday saved me from having to take time off of work to solve this. They could have gotten me in the day after I called for a quote if I had the availability. The quote for each vehicle came in below what I was seeing as the "average" cost to repair as well. You never want to be in a situation where you need this kind of work done but if that day comes, an experience like this is all you could hope for. Thank you for getting me taken care of!

Called Mel’s to get a quote on my windshield. (Also went to Safelite’s website. Safelite’s was a joke from the initial “quoted price” to having to initiate any chat just to get to a phone number that someone live answers to the real price hundreds of dollars more when I asked the representative on the phone) Kara answered the phone at Mel’s, was enjoyable to talk to and gave me my options. She helped me through the insurance process while on the phone with an agent from our insurance company. They were able to schedule me the next day. Keith, John and Jonathan came out in the morning and called me ahead of time. They were efficient, well run and friendly. …If you're hesitant to talk to people on the phone and prefer to just “book online” you’ll pay for it. Call Mel’s, they did a great job!

My brother has been driving with a cracked windshield for a very long time. I decided to buy him a windshield for his birthday. I have done business with Mel's before and I am very familiar with the quality of people they are and the quality of work they do. Chris Stone was my primary contact this time and she is a customer service goddess! I am grateful for the Six Star customer service. Dayzia was my contact at the point of purchase and she also rendered Six Star customer service. My brother was tickled to be getting a new windshield until I traumatized him with the fact that he"ll consciously or unconsciously think of me everytime he looks through it. Hey, I paid for the windshield. He can pay for his therapy! 😱
